There is an abundance of literature on the assessment and treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder in children. In the last ten years, research has been published which has demonstrated that the disorder extends into adulthood, may not have been diagnosed in the individual as a child and has major impact on the social functioning of the adult. In adulthood, it has been accompanied by significant mental health co-morbidities such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse. It has been difficult for the mental health clinician who has not been trained in its assessment and diagnosis when its neurological symptoms confounds treatment and the client and client system continues to suffer.
