Parents and teachers expect children to use executive skills even though they may little understand what these skills are and how they impact behavior and school performance.
This workshop will provide an overview of how executive skills develop, as well as how they impact daily living and school performance. The groundwork for these skills is laid before birth, but the skills gradually develop during the first two decades of life and can be enhanced. Participants will learn tools and strategies that can be used to assist “smart but scattered” kids to become successful problem solvers and self-reliant adults.
It is designed to give educators and mental health professionals the tools they need to better understand executive skills, how these skills develop across childhood, and what intervention strategies can help improve these skills.

Description de l'évenement
Executive skills refer to the cognitive processes required to plan and organize activities, including task initiation and follow through, working memory, performance monitoring, inhibition of impulses and self-regulation. Children and adolescents with poor executive skills (often seen in those who struggle with Tourette Syndrome, ADHD and other neurological dysfunctions) are disorganized or forgetful, have trouble getting started on tasks and are easily distracted.Parents and teachers expect children to use executive skills even though they may little understand what these skills are and how they impact behavior and school performance.
