John Preston will present empirically validated psychotherapies focusing on processing of traumatic experiences. He will cover reducing nightmares, specific affect management techniques, and treatment of chronic and complex PTSD (including strategies for dealing with PTSD in the context of borderline personality disorders). New immediate response strategies for crisis treatment occurring in the immediate aftermath of trauma will be demonstrated, incorporating lessons learned post 9/11. He will also cover non-medical approaches to enhancing adaptive brain functioning and affective control: exercise, dietary approaches, sleep enhancement, stabilization of the circadian rhythm, and psychopharmacology.
