The award-winning film, in Italian with English subtitles, is set in Milan in the early 1980s after the closure of psychiatric hospitals. The humorous, occasionally brutal and moving film is based on a true story about a group of over-medicated, under-stimulated but potentially creative psychiatric patients who develop an innovative and successful “mosaic parquet” business that helps them reintegrate into society.
The screening will be followed by a reception with an Italian theme and exhibits by visual artists and photographers who have a personal experience of mental illness. Tickets are $12 for the general public, $8 for Canadian Film Institute members and pay-what-you-can for people living on low incomes.
